Mata Ortiz Pottery The Village of Mata Ortiz, a small Mexican community of 2000 people, has yielded over 400 creative, skilled, and innovative potters who have followed the lead of resident and Master Potter, Juan Quezada, to produce exquisite vessels reminiscent of the ancient Casas Grandes pottery of the region. These new artists, however, infuse their work with both influences from the past along with their own contemporary styles and interpretations of the present world they live in. The level of quality achieved both in the crafting of the pottery as well as surface decoration have placed this art form in the highest arena with master potters all over the world.
