Matt Yellowman-Navajo Folk Art
Matthew Yellowman was born in Montezuma Creek, Utah. After high school he had trained in masonry and experimented with oil painting and decorated ceramics. He started carving in 1996, when he got together with a fellow folk artist, Rena Juan. Later he then developed his own whimsical style.
He works with cottonwood found in washes around the Navajo reservation. Matthew never sketches his ideas and prefers to work them out in the wood.
