Jimmy Poyer - inlaid bears & turtles Jimmy Poyer's traditional Navajo upbringing gave him a strong sense of values which is reflected in his exquisite inlay jewelry. Although there is great demand for his pieces, Poyer has resisted the temptation to set up a shop with other people producing his work. Likewise, he does not cast the silver and gold for his designs. Instead, Poyer builds every piece by hand from sheet silver, wire and natural stones. One of Jimmy Poyer's most popular designs is the bear. When asked if this design has any special significance, Poyer responded, "Yes. The bear to us is like lions are to Africa. He has authority. He is king or president...bear is the keeper of the mountain. That is his territory. When you go to the mountain, you have to ask to go on his sacred homeland."
